Leatherhead Town Facilities
Leatherhead's tradition as a town providing a focus for
services and facilities for its local population and those
of surrounding communities goes back hundreds of years.
It is still a vibrant and thriving centre combining a remarkable
range of facilities. First and foremost it is a shopping
town with an attractive and largely traffic-free High Street
and a modern and distinctive shopping centre. An increasing
range of excellent restaurants, pubs and cafes is a recent
trend.
A feature of the High Street is its design intended to
provide easy access for all, especially for those who have
disabilities.
For visitors, as well as local people, there is a museum,
a leisure centre and a theatre that would be the envy of
many larger towns. The library is attractively located
within The Mansion in Church Street and there is a smaller
community library within the Leatherhead Institute. The
Institute has been improved recently to provide disabled
access to the first floor and it is the location for many
local clubs and societies.
The town also has many fine, centrally located churches.
All the main Christian denominations are represented. A
full range of schooling is available from pre-school play
groups to secondary schools. |
